Introduction

We are humans. We have egos. We dislike appearing dumb, but love appearing smart. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

When questions aren't asked in a meeting, you may feel like the dumbest one in the room. However, let me tell you something, other people in the room feel the same.

Silence may make us appear as if we have understood everything. We dislike being the only one who hasn't understood the topic discussed.

The problem

The worst thing here is regret. Now, you're building up knowledge of unknowns. The knowledge you could have gained, but decided to throw away the chance you got in favor of your image. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

In favor of appearing smart. In favor of not being the dumb one.

Focus on yourself

Think for a second. Zoom out. Is it worth it to appear smart?

Focus on yourself. Don't worry whether other people perceive you as smart or dumb. What matters to you is your growth and not building a living regret inside of you.

This doesn't only apply to meetings at work. It applies to many things. For instance, appearing to be an expert in a subject on social media, but in reality, you are a beginner.

Conclusion

Never throw away growth for the sake of your image in others' eyes.
